Our Mission
"As believers in Jesus, the only Son of God, we share his teachings with all people through His love and grace."
In September of 2005 a series of information meetings was begun at Govan's Gathering Place on the Square in Gallatin, with about ten people present. These meetings continued on a weekly basis at Govan's and at the Suddarth Building, with the attendance increasing to twenty-eight. The meetings were a time of discernment, and addressed the changes in direction of the Episcopal Church following the 2003 General Convention as well as the movements away from the orthodox faith evidenced across the denominational spectrum of the Christian faith. This series of discussions and prayer were facilitated by Fr. Minton.
On the Monday before Thanksgiving week Fr. Minton announced that he had left the Episcopal Church of the United States of America, and was placing himself under the jurisdiction of The Episcopal Missionary Church. Those attending requested him to ask The Rt. Rev. William Millsaps, Presiding Bishop to come to Gallatin and answer questions concerning the E.M.C.. This meeting was held on the following Monday at the Suddarth Building, with thirty one in attendance. Following a lengthy meeting, Dr. Charles Norton asked how many of those in attendance would follow Fr. Minton to the E.M.C.. Twenty seven voted to do so. Fr. Minton was then asked to head the new congregation, and with the consent of Bishop Millsaps, he accepted the call.
St. Michael's held it's first service on the Third Sunday of Advent in 2005, in the chapel of Newby's Funeral Home, in Gallatin, Tennessee. There were thirty three people present for that service, twenty-two of whom had signed the Articles of Association with St. Michael's and the Episcopal Missionary Church. The celebrant for that service was The Reverend Henry P. Minton, Jr., the Rector of the parish. Since that service, services have been held each Sunday at Newby’s, the Suddarth Building, or the Chapel of Family Heritage Funeral Home, before moving to it's present location at 124 N. Water Street, on the Square in Gallatin. On Easter Sunday 2007, St. Michael's began holding two Sunday services, and is now averaging between forty and fifty each Sunday.
